Kingsley's was founded at the beginning of the 20th century by a group of British artists, members of the Royal Academy of Arts (London). At first it was a studio for the production of engravings, lithographs, silk-screen prints, and other types of color and monochrome graphics in limited editions. The studio provided artists with equipment and materials for the production of paintings and graphic works.
In the early 1930s, the curator and director of Kingsley's was Sir Alfred Kingsley Lawrence, a member of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters and a member of the Royal Academy of Arts. During this period, many graphic works were created in collaboration with members of the Royal Academy, including the President of the Academy, Sir Alfred Munnings, as well as artists Walter Ernest Webster, William Russell Flint, Laura Knight, sisters Doris and Anna Zinkeisen and others.
Kingsley's produced color and monochrome graphic works based on paintings by famous European artists of the 19th and 20th centuries, including Edgar Degas, Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Anders Zorn, Jean-Gabriel Domergue, Georges Barbier, Umberto Brunelleschi, Gerda Wagener and others. Kingsley's also produced art objects based on paintings by Russian artists, including Leon Bakst, Konstantin Somov, Nicholas Roerich, Zinaida Serebryakova, Marc Chagall, Rinat Kuramshin and others.
