Tajikistan - is a mountainous country in Central Asia. The capital of Tajikistan is Dushanbe.
The territory of Tajikistan was previously home to several ancient cultures and was later home to kingdoms ruled by people of different faiths and cultures, including the Oxus Valley Civilisation, Andronovo Culture, Buddhism, Nestorian Christianity, Vedic religion, Zoroastrianism, Manichaeism, and Islam.
The area has been ruled by numerous empires and dynasties, including the Achaemenid Empire, Sasanian Empire, Hephthalite Empire, Samanid Empire and the Mongol Empire.
There are two UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Tajikistan: Sarazm and the Pamir National Park.
Tajikistan has its music, dances and crafts. Tajik traditional dances are divided into the following kinds: pantomime dance (imitation of animals and birds), ceremonial dance and dance beside death bed.
Tajik traditional clothes differ from region to region in terms of color, embroidered patterns, style. But there are some common features in every national costume. A tunic-type shirt, wide trousers, a quilted dressing gown, a waist scarf, a skull-cap or a turban, leather boots, galoshes with pointed toes (which are frequently worn over boots ) - for men, a tunic-type dress, wide trousers, a kerchief or a skull-cap - for women.
The most ancient kind of national Tajik crafts is weaving, national artistic embroidery. The tradition of home decoration originated in ancient times. The kind of embroidery used for this is called «suzane» which in Persian language means «needlework».
The art of decorative carving is one of the most ancient and widespread crafts in Tajikistan (monuments, household objects, musical instruments, utensils, doors, frames and souvenirs).
Traditional centers of Tajik literature were Samarkand and Bukhara, however these cities are now in Uzbekistan. Though Tajiks do not draw a line, between their own literature and general Persian literature, there have been a few notable Tajik writers and poets.
