Jewish holidays, also known as Jewish festivals or Yamim Tovim throughout the Hebrew calendar. They include religious, cultural and national elements, derived from three sources: biblical mitzvot ("commandments"), rabbinic mandates, and the history of Judaism and the State of Israel.
Shabbat ("rest" or "cessation"), Shabbos or the Sabbath, is Judaism's day of rest on the seventh day of the week.
The main Jewish holidays are Rosh Hashanah – the Jewish New Year, Yom Kippur-the Day of Judgment, Hanukkah-the "Feast of Lights", Purim-the holiday of the salvation of Jews, Passover-a holiday in memory of the exodus of Jews from Egypt, Shavuot-the holiday of giving the Torah to Jews.
Menorah is a golden seven-arm lamp, or a candlestick for seven candles (seven-branched candlestick), which, according to the Bible, was in the tabernacle of the meeting during the exodus, and then in the Jerusalem Temple, up to before the destruction of the Second Temple. It is one of the oldest symbols of Judaism and Jewish religious attributes. A Torah scroll, in Hebrew Sefer Torah is a handwritten copy of the Torah, meaning: of the Pentateuch, or the five books of Moses (the first books of the Hebrew Bible. One of the elements of the synagogue's interior is the ner - Tamid memorial candle. A mezuzah is a piece of parchment called a klaf contained in a decorative case and inscribed with specific Hebrew verses from the Torah. In mainstream Rabbinic Judaism, a mezuzah is affixed to the doorpost of Jewish homes. Ritual items also include Easter and Saturday tablecloths and napkins (usually embroidered), special knives for making matzo, ritual dishes and much more.
Jews dressed differently in different regions. In Europe, an indispensable sign of a Jew was a black vest and a lapserdak (a long-skirted caftan), in eastern countries Jews wore embroidered dressing gowns.The obligatory accessory of the clothing of a religious Jew is a yarmulke (kippah) and a tallit.
